Huckabee personally apologized to Obama link to original source We knew he issued a TV apology for telling an assassination joke to an NRA audience about Sen. Barack Obama, but now former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee reveals to us that he also made a personal apology call to the likely Democratic presidential nominee. Huckabee says it was blown way out of proportion by bloggers and the media. That was in part why he called to say he was sorry for making this joke after hearing a loud bang in the background while he spoke to the National Rifle Association recently. “That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak, and somebody aimed a gun at him and he--he dove for the floor.” Huck told our Suzi Parker that he called Obama last weekend to clear the air. “He didn't think it was a big deal although the media did," Huckabee tells us. "He was very nice about the whole thing." Huckabee connected with Obama through Harold Ford Jr., who was a guest on Meet the Press along with Huckabee last Sunday. "He [Obama] told me he didn't think it was a big deal, that he knew I didn't mean anything by it and not to worry. He was a class act and gracious. Too bad the people who blew it up on the Internet weren't as classy or calm as he was." No apology necessary: Bush apologizes for Koran shooting by Burt Noyes Yesterday, President Bush
apologized
for an incident in which an American
soldier in Iraq used the Koran, the holy book of the Muslims, for
target practice. You can see a video report of Bush's apology
below.Although I wouldn't waste a perfectly good bullet on a Koran, for our government to treat the Koran as something sacred when we don't even guarantee that kind of respect for the Holy Bible is a spectacular display of weakness and political pandering. In some Muslim countries, even those considered to be our allies, our soldiers and citizens are not even allowed to bring a Bible with them. Writers and cartoonists around the world who have "insulted" Islam have been killed or recieved death threats. It is truly amazing that in the 6 1/2 years since 9/11 Islam and Muslims have become a special protected class in our country and that this special protection even extends beyond our borders. Islam and the Koran have been elevated by our politicians to a protected status that Christianity and Judaism have never attained. Muslims are given special consideration in airports, schools, and other government run institutions. Our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not the politically-correct favoring of one religion over the other. It's time to elect leaders who will honor the Constitution and not a backward, misogynistic, hate-filled religion like Islam. Barack Obama will gut our military and national defense Below is an ad from Obama's political campaign that clearly demonstrates Obama's left-wing lunacy. Not only is he willing to talk to terrorist states without pre-conditions, but at the same time he would decimate our military and leave our country wide open for military and terrorist attacks. Huckabee endorses Glenn McCall link to original source Chairman Glenn McCall picked up a national endorsement this week in his bid for a spot on the Republican National Committee. Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee praised McCall’s commitment to defining marriage as between one man and one woman and also highlighted his opposition to abortion. In a letter to South Carolina Republicans, Huckabee wrote, "The Republican Party has a tough road ahead of them. We need strong leaders that understand the task ahead and are prepared for the challenges we are sure to face. Glenn McCall understands what is needed to help move our party forward and that is why I am supporting his candidacy for National Committeeman." McCall, chairman of the York County Republicans, is running for one of South Carolina's two seats on the Republican National Committee, a 100-member body that decides party platforms, manages the primary schedule and shapes election strategy. His chief opponent is Columbia political strategist Drew McKissick. To get elected, McCall must win a majority of votes among 1,400 S.C. Republicans who serve as delegates to the state convention. They will decide May 31 in Columbia. McCall and his wife, Linda, became close with Huckabee during the Republican primary season. Linda McCall helped to lead Huckabee’s campaign in York County, where he wound up trouncing eventual nominee John McCain and third-place finisher Mitt Romney. The former Arkansas governor visited a number of times, including a trip to Fort Mill to throw out the first pitch at a Charlotte Knights baseball game and later an appearance at Winthrop on the night before the S.C. primary. Huckabee is believed to be the first national figure to make an endorsement in the race. McKissick has won the backing of several state party activists, including Cindy Costa, Randy Page and former Rudy Giuliani supporter Barry Wynn. Each state party elects a man and woman to the committee. In South Carolina, Costa holds one slot. The other opened when Columbia orthodontist Buddy Witherspoon launched a bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham. Members cannot run for office while serving on the committee. Huckabee speaks in Spokane about family values link to original source Former GOP Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is in Spokane Tuesday to speak about family values. Huckabee, until recently the governor of Arkansas, is speaking at a joint dinner for the Family Policy Institute of Washington and the Family Research Council. The banquet starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Spokane Convention Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. He will give a similar speech for the same institutions in Seattle on Wednesday. According to the Family Policy Institute of Washington, Huckabee will be discussing his "concerns for family - in our state and in our nation." He will be joined at the dinner by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, another prominent politician and outspoken opponent of abortion and gay marriage, who will be discussing similar topics. The Family Institute of Washington has a stated goal "to introduce and influence Washington state laws and public policy in support of human life and the institutions of marriage and the family." In addition to his life as a politician, Mike Huckabee is the author of several books, the last of which was Character Makes a Difference: Where I'm From, Where I've Been, and What I Believe, released last summer. Throughout his books, he has been highly critical of gay marriage and a steadfast opponent of abortion. Preview clip of Huckabee on Tavis Smiley show Pastor who endorsed Huckabee cleared by IRS link to original source pictured
to the left: Pastor Wiley DrakeA Southern Baptist pastor in California has been cleared by the Internal Revenue Service of any wrongdoing for endorsing Republican Mike Huckabee for president. Last summer, Wiley Drake, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, issued a press release on church letterhead announcing his support of Huckabee and encouraging his fellow Southern Baptists to get behind the candidate. Drake also voiced his support for Huckabee on his Internet radio show. Federal law prohibits church officials from intervening in political campaigns on behalf of a particular candidate without risking their ministry's tax-exempt status. However, according to Drake, an IRS investigation found that the press release constituted a personal endorsement and that the radio show is not associated with the church. Drake says he will continue to be vocal about political matters. "We're going to keep on fighting," says Drake. "We're going to keep on doing what we've been doing -- we're going to keep on preaching against sin, we're going to keep on preaching against bad politicians. And if the IRS doesn't like that, that's too bad," he states. According to Associated Press, when Drake -- who is one of six candidates for president of the Southern Baptist Convention -- delivered the news Sunday to his congregation, it responded with applause. The SBC holds its annual meeting next month in Indianapolis. Video: Huckabee at Union College on same-sex marriage Huckabee addresses Patrick Henry College grads link to original source pictured
to the left: Mike Huckabee at Patrick Henry CollegeStudents at Patrick Henry College are known for their ready access to top government and political leaders. That held true Saturday when former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee stopped in Purcellville to deliver the commencement address to the college's seventh graduating class. Employing his trademark humor and strong dose of Baptist ministry, Huckabee urged the 63 graduates of the classical Christian liberal arts college to use their experience at the school to make a difference in the world-promoting strong moral values, self governance and adherence to the Golden Rule. The nation's founding fathers, Huckabee said, would be appalled by the size of the federal government. The excess of government regulation and bureaucracy, he said, is caused by the failure of citizens to follow a strong moral code and to treat others as they would want to be treated. Huckabee also urged students to focus on the next challenge ahead of them rather than trying to correct past missteps. He told the class of his training for a governors' bobsled challenge in Utah before the Winter Olympic games when a young instructor advised him to simply "steer for the curve ahead," noting that nothing could be done to change the performance on the path behind. Huckabee recounted his experiences on the campaign trail as the southern governor emerged as a national champion of the Republican Party's conservative wing. In talks with reporters after the ceremony, Huckabee said that he continues to campaign in support of Sen. John McCain, the party's presumptive nominee, but said there have been no formal talks about the possibility of joining the ticket as a vice presidential nominee. The college emphasizes coursework and internships in government service, journalism, history, literature and liberal arts. Students from 44 states attend the college. Of the 63 members of the graduating class, three were from Hawaii and three were from Loudoun County. Huckabee noted that the students are coming to the campus to be trained as leaders. "They are not just coming to get an education. They are coming to go forth from here as real leaders and as change agents," Huckabee said. PHC Chancellor Michael P. Farris presented Huckabee with an honorary doctoral degree. Become a FairTax 1040 member now!

The new $5 bill ![]() by Walter Williams link to original source Every time there's a highly
publicized shooting, out go the cries
for stricter gun control laws, and it was no different with the recent
murder of Philadelphia Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski. Pennsylvania
Gov. Ed Rendell and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, in a letter to
the state congressional delegation demanding reenactment of the federal
assault weapon ban, said, "Passing this legislation will go a long way
to protecting those who put their lives on the line every day for us. …
There is no excuse to do otherwise."Gun control laws will not protect us from murderers. We need protection from the criminal justice system politicians have created. Let's look at it. According to former Philly cop Michael P. Tremoglie's article "Who freed the cop-killers?" for the Philadelphia Daily News (5/8/08), all three murder suspects had extensive criminal records. Levon Warner was sentenced in 1997 to seven and a half to 15 years for robbery, one to five years for possessing an instrument of crime and five to 10 for criminal conspiracy. Howard Cain was convicted in 1996 on four counts of robbery and sentenced to five to 10 years on each count. Eric Floyd was sentenced to five to 10 years in 1995 for robbery, rearrested in 1999 for parole violation and later convicted in 2001 for two robberies. If these criminals had not been released from prison, long before they served out their sentences, officer Liczbinski would be alive today. So what's responsible for his death: guns or a prison and parole system that released these three criminals? Tremoglie cites other examples of criminals, with convictions for violent crimes ranging from robbery and assault to murder, who were paroled and later murdered police officers. A New York Times study (4/28/06) of the city's 1,662 murders in 2003-2005 found that 90 percent of the murderers had criminal records. A Massachusetts study reported that on average, homicide offenders had been arraigned for nine prior offenses. John Lott's book, "More Guns, Less Crime," reports that in 1988 in the 75 largest counties in the U.S., over 89 percent of adult murderers had a criminal record as an adult. A few days after the murder of Liczbinski, Governor Rendell told a news conference, attended by state elected officials and top law enforcement officials, "The time has come for politicians to decide. You have to decide whether you're on their side -- the men and women who wear blue -- or whether you're on the side of the gun lobby." Instead of saying "whether you're on the side of the gun lobby," Rendell should have said "whether you're on the side of the criminal and the courts, prosecutors, prisons and parole boards that cut soft deals with criminals and release them to prey upon police officers and law-abiding citizens." If there is one clear basic function of government, it's to protect citizens from criminals. When government failure becomes so apparent, as it is in the murder of a police officer, officials seek scapegoats and very often it's the National Rifle Association and others who seek to protect our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. We hear calls for stricter gun control laws when what is really needed is more control over criminals. There are many third-party liability laws. I think they ought to be applied to members of parole boards who release criminals who turn around and commit violent crimes. As it stands now, people on parole boards who release criminals bear no cost of their decisions. I bet that if members of parole boards were held liable or forced to serve the balance of the sentence of a parolee who goes out and commits more crime, they would pay more attention to the welfare of the community rather than the welfare of a criminal. You say, "Williams, under those conditions, who'd serve on a parole board?" There's something to be said about that. Nothing is certain but Death and the FairTax by Mike S. Adams link to original source My good friend Lee – a Vietnam
veteran and proud gun-toting
conservative – recently declared to me that the FairTax is a great idea
that will never actually happen. Because I am a true Reagan
conservative – one full of optimism and faith in the American people –
I respectfully dissent. And I write today to explain exactly how we
will win the war against the I.R.S. and make the FairTax a reality. We can all agree that the FairTax movement is a grass roots effort that must prevail over the resistance of politicians and lobbyists who have a powerful interest in maintaining the status quo. But this does not mean that every supporter of the FairTax must dedicate a significant amount of time volunteering to make the dream of abolishing the I.R.S. a reality. There is something retired veterans like Lee can do, which will require little time and money and will virtually guarantee the success of the FairTax movement. The idea comes to me from a former student who was waiting on me the other night at the bar of a seafood restaurant in Wilmington. I had a beer in one hand and my copy of FairTax: The Truth in the other when an Obama supporter asked the following: “Why do you support the FairTax? We just need to change the tax code to punish corporations that are sending our jobs over to China.” Armed with FairTax: The Truth, I responded with the following: “I’m from Texas as is Representative Bill Archer. He testified in front of Congress about the results of an interesting study of 500 companies in Japan. When asked what they would do if the U.S. abolished its present tax system and went with a consumption tax, 80% said they would build their next plant in America. The remaining 20% said they would relocate to America altogether. Now that’s change you can believe in!” Clearly, my response gave the young man something to think about. But so did my waitress and former student. She jokingly said “Dr. Adams, you probably aren’t even reading that book. You’re just trying to provoke a debate.” Of course, I really was reading the book but it gave me a very good idea. I decided to keep carrying it with me everywhere for a week after I finished reading it just to see whether that would be a good way of provoking debate on the issue. The very next day it produced the following exchange with a flat tax supporter: Supporter of the Flat Tax of Yesterday (SOFTY): Sorry, I support the flat tax. Adams: How often do you change your underwear? SOFTY: What? Adams: I assume you change your underwear every day? SOFTY: Yes, what the hell does that have to do with it? Adams: That means you’ve changed underwear 8036 times in the last 22 years. SOFTY: And? Adams: And the I.R.S. has changed the tax code 16,000 times in the last 22 years. They change the tax code twice as often as you change underwear. How long do you think a flat tax would remain flat? SOFTY: (Silence) Adams: Would you like to borrow my book? I’m sure SOFTY was still thinking about the FairTax the next day while he was (hopefully) changing his underwear. Meanwhile, I was sitting at a bar having this exchange: Badly and Desperately Pessimistic Realtor (BADPR): I know the FairTax is going to kill people in my line of work. Adams: I think you’re exaggerating, to say the least. I’m about to buy my fourth house and my first new house. BADPR: So. Adams: So I’m like a lot of people out there. Most of our home purchases are not of new homes. BADPR: And? Adams: And the FairTax only applies to new home purchases. BADPR: Can I borrow your book? Adams: Sure. And be sure to read the portion on embedded taxes, too. It may convince you that new home purchases will be impacted to a lesser extent than you imagine. BADPR: I will. Adams: Finally, and in the interests of full disclosure, I do know someone who bought four new homes in a row. He was a very wealthy former student of mine. Before he went to prison he bought four new homes. But he never paid income tax on the cocaine he sold on his way to becoming wealthy. Too bad we didn’t have a consumption tax like the one you will read about in the book I gave you. Some conversations were a little more cumbersome. Like this one I had with a young fellow who was drinking Budweiser at 12:35 p.m. in a pizza place in Wilmington: Bud-loving unemployed drunk dude (BUDD): What are you reading? Adams: FairTax: The Truth. (The portion of the conversation talking about our waitress’ tattoos is deleted). BUDD: If I thought it would get me a job, I’d be all for it. Adams: Here, take my copy. Make sure you read the chart on page 131. It shows how states with high income taxes fare relative to states with no income taxes in terms of economic growth. BUDD: Are you just giving me this? Adams: Yep. I’ve been making good money on the speaking circuit this year. When people have more money they are more charitable. See the statistics on page 166. If you agree with it, buy a copy for someone else. My little experiment with FairTax: The Truth convinced me of a few things. First, it convinced me that it’s an easy way to get people talking about the FairTax. It also convinced me that most people who oppose the FairTax do so because they are insufficiently educated about all of its benefits. I read Boortz and Linder’s first FairTax book twice and thought I understood it well enough to explain all of its benefits. But after I read Fair Tax: The Truth I realized there were more benefits than I had imagined previously. I don’t have much time to volunteer to the FairTax cause. But I do have time to briefly discuss it at the coffee shop in the morning, the diner in the afternoon, or the restaurant at night. That is why I’ve decided to extend my experiment by carrying FairTax books with me every day for the next year. I’ve also decided to give my copies away to anyone who promises to read them. I plan to write off all these FairTax books as “charitable contributions” on next year’s tax return. If you join me today, I won’t have to do it again. |
